The paper has natural yellowing, occasional spots, the edges of the sheets are torn.

INFORMATION
Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly (1808–1889) — a French prose writer and critic of Norman origin, a legitimist and Catholic, author of the collection "Les Diaboliques" (1874), whose print run was confiscated after publication on charges of offending public morality. The Lviv edition presents five of the six stories: "The Crimson Curtain", "The Party is Over", "Happiness in Crime", "Don Juan's Best Love", and "The Revenge of One Woman". The preface explains that "The Atheists' Supper" was deliberately omitted — so as not to exceed the volume of the edition and due to the probable misunderstanding of the blasphemous passages; the text is presented with reductions of the author's digressions.

The preface was signed by Mykhailo Rudnytskyi (1889–1975) — literary scholar, critic, and translator, head of the literary department of Dilo, later a professor at Lviv University. He notes that the full text of "Les Diaboliques" from the Kyiv edition "Siaivo" (under the title "Chortovyna") in the translation by Ye. Rudynska, edited by M. Zerov, was taken as the basis, although its language had been substantially revised; special thanks were expressed to Prof. Vasyl Symovych.

The dust jacket was designed by Pavlo Kovzhun (1896–1939) — graphic artist, co-founder of the Association of Independent Ukrainian Artists, a leading figure in interwar Galician book graphics; his design has independent artistic value.

The "Dilo Library" series was published by the Publishing Union Dilo as a book supplement for subscribers of the eponymous newspaper. The edition belongs to the interwar Galician translation repertoire and rarely occurs in complete condition.
