The chapters range from childhood dreams and his first meeting with Klymiv through his work in the OUN, anti-colonial action, arrest, trial, and deportation (Zolochiv, Drohobych, Radom, Siedlce) to the war, his journey abroad, meetings with Roman Shukhevych and Stepan Bandera, interrogations, and imprisonment in Lviv.

Bohdan Kazanovskyi belonged to that generation of pre-war nationalists who had devoted their lives to the struggle for statehood since their youth; in his own words, he shared the fate of his friends in Polish and Moscow-Bolshevik prisons. The author credits the publication of his memoirs to the editor Danylo Chaikovskyi, who encouraged him to write. The 1979 donor inscription is dated Philadelphia.

The book was published by the Ukrainian Publishing Union in London — a society founded in 1949 by the British branch of the OUN (Banderites); from the end of 1962, it operated from a building at 200 Liverpool Road, where this volume was also printed. The language editor was Mykola Veres, and the cover was designed by Danusia Kazanovska. Thirteen illustrations range from portraits and group photographs to a reproduction of Volodymyr Kaplun’s 1932 painting of the Zolochiv prison; in the photograph of a 1936 outing to Makivka, Vasyl Bandera stands in the back row, next to the signature.
