The material is divided into over forty short chapters: “The Arrival of the New ‘Liberators’,” “Battle with the NKVD,” “The Gestapo’s Punishment Detachment,” “The Red Hordes,” “The Train Departs Eastward.” In a separate statement before the text, the author warns that the facts are true, that some names and pseudonyms are given authentically, and that some episodes have been recounted in altered form.

Stepan Mudryk-Mechnik (1919–2004) — born in the village of Kryve in the Radkivshchyna region, he served as a courier between the regional OUN leader Ivan Klymyvyi “Legenda” and Stepan Bandera on the eve of the German-Soviet war, was a prisoner in German concentration camps, deputy commander of the UPA “Buh” military district, and from 1951, head of intelligence for the OUN’s Overseas Units, later head of the OUN’s Main Council. “Unconquered” is his second book after “Under Three Occupiers” (London, 1958); the Volyn and Galicia episodes are based on his own experience, and “Legenda” appears in the text under his own pseudonym.

Ukrainian Publishers Ltd. in London — publisher of the monthly “Vyzvolnyi Shliakh” (1948–2004), which also occasionally published books; this volume was printed in its own press.
