In the preface, the publishing house explains that dramatizations of the works of Shevchenko, Franko, and Lesya Ukrainka had become a mandatory part of such celebrations even before the war and were popular with audiences in both villages and cities. The collection contains three dramatizations — "Grishnytsia", "The Poet During the Siege", and "Robert Bruce", explanations for them, and notes for the director, as well as three reports: "Biography of Lesya Ukrainka", "How a Little Girl Became a Great Writer", and "The Significance of Lesya Ukrainka". The reports may be delivered verbatim or adapted into one's own presentation.

Lesya Ukrainka (Larysa Kosach-Kvitka, 1871–1913) was a poet, playwright, and creator of the dramatic poem genre in Ukrainian literature. The dramatized works here belong to her civic lyric poetry and heroic epic: the poem "Robert Bruce, King of Scotland" (1893) tells of a Scottish knight who led the people against English enslavement, while "Grishnytsia" tells of a woman who, in a monastery prison, recounts her participation in the underground struggle.

The Ukrainian Publishing House was founded in Kraków in December 1939 as the only Ukrainian publishing house that German authorities allowed to operate in the General Government; Volodymyr Kubiyovych was the head of the board. The publishing house primarily supplied books to Ukrainians in the Chełm, Podlasie, Lemko, and Naddniyany regions, distributing them through educational societies, and by the middle of 1941 had published 195 titles. This brochure was published as the second part of the "General Library" series, with a print run of 3,000 copies.
