Both parts were published in the “Library of the Ukrainian Underground” series (parts 6 and 7), intended, as stated on the verso of the title page, for use by the Ukrainian underground in Ukraine.

Part 1 (1957) contains articles on the organizational structure of the UPA, the soldier’s oath, partisan tactics and raids, the work of the Ukrainian Red Cross and the role of women in the liberation movement, UPA appeals to the peoples of the USSR—Uzbeks, Kazakhs and Turkmen, Armenians and Georgians, Tatars of the Volga region, Russians, Belarusians, and Red Army soldiers—and accounts of battles. Part 2 (1960) presents the UPA’s combat operations for 1943–1950 in chronological order: the account opens with the first hundred’s offensive against Volodymyrets in February 1943.

According to the publisher, the materials in the second part were compiled from regional reports brought abroad and preserved in the archive of the Foreign Units Command of the OUN, as well as from regional publications: the period 1943–1945 was compiled primarily from unpublished reports; 1947–1949 was mostly reprinted from the “Information Bureau of the UGV” and the journal “Do Zbroi”; and 1950 was based on unpublished materials from the archive. The second part was later reprinted.
