Our Story
Books with a history — and the people who preserve them
01How it all started
It all started with a small private collection that came my way one day. I leafed through these books—and realized I had found the work of my life.
02Books that were meant to disappear
Dearest to me are early printed books. Pochaiv, Lviv and Kyiv imprints of the 17th and 18th centuries: books that have survived three centuries and still carry the printer's hand.
But our true speciality is books that were never supposed to exist. Books that were banned, purged from libraries and destroyed. Publications of the Ukrainian diaspora — from displaced persons camps in post-war Germany, from Winnipeg, New York, Toronto and Munich. Books printed where no one could ban them, so that one day they could come home.
Finding such a book, giving it new life and placing it in good hands — that is our work.
03Where do books come from?
From private collections that come to us intact. From flea markets, book clearance sales, and the corners of the internet. Every book in the catalog has a story of how it came to us, and we are happy to share it.
04Our standard
No book makes it into the catalog right away. First comes the research: who is the author, which edition is it, and is it a complete copy? Next is the condition: we check every page, the binding, and the text block. If a book needs restoration, we do it carefully, preserving everything authentic.
Only then do we write the description and take photos—honest, showing all the traces of time. You get exactly what you see.
05Who We Sell To
To everyone who loves books. Our editions are in museum collections and private collections, given as anniversary gifts, and used in scholarly research. It is important to us that every book finds its reader—a collector, researcher, museum, or simply someone who cares about history.
