INFORMATION
The program commemorates the holiday with which the Ukrainian community of America marked the twentieth anniversary of the UPA. On Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22, 1962, at the home of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Ellenville, Leonid Poltava's stage production "The UPA Army of Freedom" with a choir, a Divine Liturgy, the dedication of the flag of the Association of Former UPA Soldiers named after Gen. Ch. Chuprynka, a parade, speeches, and a défilé took place, and the main event was the unveiling of the monument to the fighters for Ukraine's freedom by sculptor Mykhailo Chereshnivskyi (1911–1994). This bronze monument to the heroes still stands at the home.
A woodcut by Neil Hasevich (1905–1952), a graphic artist of the UPA, is printed on the frontispiece: insurgents under a flag with the slogan "Freedom for the peoples! Freedom for man!" break down the gate of a building with the inscription "USSR — prison of nations". Further — a call by the Ukrainian Congressional Committee of America, an appeal by the organizing committee for signatures from the heads of the Association of Former UPA Soldiers, SUMA, and TUSM named after Mikhnovskyi, "The Testament of the Fighters" by Bohuslav Boies from the collection "Rebellious Words", an excerpt from Yurii Lypa's (1900–1944) poem "Seventeen" with a note about his death in 1944 as the chief of the medical service of UPA-South, a greeting from the Main Administration of the Organization of the Defense of the Four Freedoms of Ukraine. The booklet concludes with greetings from Ukrainian entrepreneurs of Brooklyn and the surrounding area — a meatpacking plant, construction firms, carpenters, and an insurance agent.
Programs of the diaspora community holidays were distributed among participants and almost never made it into libraries. This copy comes from a private collection from New City, New York State.
