INFORMATION

The first volume contains the early collection of novellas "Karby" (1901), the novellas "Kermanych", "Nechaiana smert" and others — all written in 1895–1901. The second covers the years 1914–1927 and is divided between the collections "Selo vyhybaie", about the ruin of a Hutsul village during the war years, and "Verkhovyna", about post-war life, and ends with poems dedicated to Vasyl Stefanyk. The third volume — a diary of the war years, selected letters, autobiography, articles about Shevchenko.

Marko Cheremshyna, real name Ivan Yuriiovych Semanyiuk (1874–1927), — writer and public figure, lawyer, doctor of law; together with Stefanyk and Martovych, he formed the "Pokuttya Trinity". His literary legacy — about sixty works, not counting publicistic writing.

The edition was prepared by Yeugen-Yulii Pelen'skyi for the "Izmaragd" series of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, and designed by Mykola Butovych (1895–1961) — graphic artist, master of book marks and ex-libris, later in exile in the USA. Sets of all three volumes survived rarely after 1939.
