Original cream-colored publisher's cover: ornamental composition of sheaves and sunflowers in brown and yellow on the front and back covers, title and author's name in black; title vertically on the spine. Slight yellowing of the paper at the edges, minor rubbing on the cover and creased corners. The block is tight, pages are clean. On the title page, a purple library stamp and pencil notations "892.7" and "2969"; inside, photographs of the author and figures from Podillia. Condition: very good.

The book has historical and cultural value and is of collector's interest.

INFORMATION

Memories of Podillia at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, written by a person who was himself part of the local public life: school, seminary, zemstvo, Prosvita, the first Ukrainian circles, and later the revolution and Kamianets-Podilskyi as the capital of the UNR. Part One brings the narrative back to the author's youth and provides a detailed picture of the provincial Ukrainian world that later completely disappeared. The text is accompanied by portraits of Podillia figures.

Viktor Prykhodko (1886–1982) — lawyer and public figure, brother of composer Oleks Prykhodko. During the UNR era, he worked in Podillia, from 1920 in exile in Poland and Czechoslovakia, and after World War II — in the USA. He wrote his memories over decades and published them in parts; the fact that this part went through four editions shows how much it was needed by his compatriots abroad.

"Krynytsia" — an émigré publishing house based in New York and Munich, specializing in memoirs and local history. The stamp and notations on the title page indicate that the copy comes from the library of a Ukrainian institution.
