Sixty poems from antiquity to modernism, translated by a single hand: Horace and Ovid, Petrarch and Michelangelo, Hugo, Baudelaire, Valéry, Shakespeare, Poe from "The Raven", Goethe, Schiller, Rilke, Słowacki, and Lobodovskyi from "Praise of Ukraine". Each author is accompanied by a brief biographical note — the book is conceived not as an anthology for the specialist, but as a window into world poetry for the reader cut off from it by language and borders.

Sviatoslav Hordynskyi (1906–1993) — poet, translator, graphic artist, and art historian, one of those who kept Ukrainian culture in the West at the level of European conversation. He studied in Berlin and Paris, in interwar Lviv was a co-founder of ANUM, after the war settled in the USA. He translated from a dozen languages, and his art history works and monumental paintings of Ukrainian churches in America left as a separate legacy. The Literary and Artistic Club in New York united writers and artists of the emigration and published what was not commercially calculated.
