INFORMATION

Diary notes about Venezuela in the early 1950s: landscapes, everyday life, the customs of the local people, observations of the political situation—and of oneself within it. This is that rare genre of emigrant literature where the author writes not about a lost home, but about the place where they ended up, and tries to understand it.

After World War II, Venezuela accepted displaced persons from Europe, and several thousand Ukrainians from camps in Germany and Austria went there. The book was published in Buenos Aires by Mykola Denysyuk—the largest Ukrainian publisher in South America, whose books and the journal "Ovid" were distributed throughout the continent. The cover was designed by Borys Kryukov (1895–1967)—a graphic artist and book illustrator who settled in Argentina after the war and designed dozens of Ukrainian publications.
